In 1986, the cities of Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster
formed a partnership known today as Best Southwest, located in Southwest
Dallas County just minutes from downtown Dallas and its many attractions.
The partnership formed when community leaders realized each community
was facing similar issues and concerns, and that together they could
work more efficiently and effectively to address those issues. Best
Southwest covers nearly 100 square miles and has a combined population
of approximately 130,000. With all the amenities of the Dallas Metroplex
at their fingertips, each of the Best Southwest city's offer plush
natural landscaping, green rolling hills, tree-lined streets, safe
neighborhoods, exceptional housing, outstanding school systems and
beautiful parks. Yet each city provides its' own unique features.
The Best Southwest Partnership, the first of its kind in Texas, has
proven to be a tremendous benefit to each of the four communities.
Out of the partnership the Cities have formed a number of regional
programs. Such as the:
· The Regional Animal Shelter
· The Regional Jail
· The Regional Dispatch
· And Regional Purchasing
In 1998, representatives from the four Best Southwest cities
met to consider a fifth regional effort, the possibility of a
regional training program for city employees. In October of 1999,
the Best Southwest Regional Training Program, which provides municipal
employees with training in all facets of their jobs in a convenient
location and comfortable atmosphere, was born. Since the Regional
Training inception, 35 courses have been developed with over 200
employees participating. Employees can work toward completing
any of the four Certification Programs offered under the Regional
Training Program. Since the inception of the Regional Training
Program, there have been improvements to the quality of service
provided by the Best Southwest to its respective residents. Allen
